So I cruise all the blogs that are linked to my friends pages and I have noticed that my blog is pretty basic.
How do you add all the links at the side and make columns on the side. I even saw a blog with a little floating baby and a timer predicting its' arrival...

As for the links....
Go to the tab that says "Layout". You'll then see a bunch of boxes (of various sizes) with different words in them (like header, add a page element, etc). There might be one that says something like "blogs" or "other sites" or something to that effect. I don't remember what the default said, because I think I have changed mine to something else. Anyway, click on that and it should have a little form with spaces for "new site url" and "new site name". In the "new site url", just enter the url of the blog or page, and in the "new site name", enter what you want to call it and voila!
As for the floating baby (widget)...I don't know what to tell you.... :(
You want to select "add a page element" at the top of all those boxes under "layout." They also have a new one for listing blogs that will tell you when a blog has been updated. I forget what it's called, but once you go into "add a page element," it's your first option.
As for the baby widget...to get the one I have click on the babystrology link at the bottom of the floating baby on my blog. It should be able to get it there. They will give you an HTML code. You'll want to copy that code and then go back into "add a page element" Add an HTML box and then paste in the code that you were given.
Hey, you got a baby widget! Look at you go! I'm glad you were able to figure it out.
I use two websites to change the backgrounds and I have just discovered this thanks to my sister-in-law and copying other people's websites. Go either to:
http://thecutestblogontheblock.com/gifs.php
or
http://www.leeloublogs.blogspot.com
They explain you how to do the change. The hardest part is to pick a background. Good luck!
